Long time in A&E but excellent care
October 6, 2023
We spent 27 hours in the A&E department, which we expected, but we cannot fault the level of care received.
Good but miscommunication is a problem
October 3, 2023
My appointments generally go well and the staff are lovely. The biggest problem is miscommunication. I have had phone calls to remind me and confirm appointments that I have not received letters about. I have had other letters telling me that an appointment is face to face to then be contacted by the consultant and told off for missing a face to face appointment when I was expecting a telephone call. There are definitely administrative errors and problems with their postal services.
Maternity care was outstanding
September 29, 2023
I recent had a baby at Heartlands maternity department. The care I received throughout my pregnancy was excellent. I felt listened to and that my concerns were heard and addressed. The staff were all wonderful. I had my baby by a planned c-section. It went very well and I felt well cared for through the birth and during my recovery.
Happy with care on Ward 9
September 29, 2023
I was admitted to ward 9, the staff have been great. The doctors have been excellent and a number of tests were carried out. I was kept well informed. I feel that no stone was left unturned and I feel very reassured that my recent illness is not related to my pre-existing medical condition which is a huge relief.
Good care on ward 19
September 28, 2023
I was sent to ward 19 from A&E for assessment. I spend the day on the ward before being admitted to another ward. The staff were very friendly and informative. I had a number of blood tests and it was decided that I would be admitted and transferred to another ward. I was very happy with the care I received.
Quickly assessed and sent to observation ward
September 28, 2023
I attended A&E upon the advice of my GP. The staff were quick to assess me and I was sent to an observation ward for further investigation and treatment.
Had to dig my heels in for answers
September 25, 2023
My child had spent a weekend in the hospital before being transferred to ward 17. After a number of blood tests they tried to discharge us and said that they would contact us with the latest blood results. I point blank refused. Communication had not been great while in and I told them that I was not leaving until they gave us clear answers. The consultant I spoke to was very understanding. After one final night we finally got the answers we sought, we were given good information and treatment was provided, together with a clear plan for ongoing assessment and treatment.
Excellent care on Ward 15
September 25, 2023
My daughter was admitted over the weekend and while care was very good no investigations could take place until Monday. Blood tests were taken but were lost and needed to be repeated which was frustrating. Staff were wonderful with my daughter, they were very kind and built good rapport with her and other children on the ward.
Children's A&E sent us to wrong department
September 25, 2023
I was advised by 111 to attend children's A&E and that they were informing them that we would be attending. When we arrived they told us that we needed to go to the badger clinic. I explained that 111 had told us that we needed to see a paediatrician and that they were contacting the hospital. Children's A&E said that was fine and that we could see one in the badger clinic. We then spent nearly 2 hours waiting in the badger clinic to be told that we could not see a paeditrician there and that we needed to go back to children's A&E. I explained what had happened and they accessed correspondence from 111. They told me that we should have been sent straight to ward 15 for assessment.
