A&E is too far for Solihull residents

April 3, 2023
Having to travel to Heartlands for emergency treatment is just too far for people who live in Solihull. We thought that A&E was re-opening but have been informed today that its only a minor injuries department. This is obviously welcomed but this has not been made clear and we need emergency treatment facilities here!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your patient experience at Heartlands Hospital. We are sorry that you have had such a long way to travel to be seen.

We are very pleased to inform you that in June 2023 the MIU will be opening again and in addition to this service there will also be a minor illnesses service which will be provided by a local primary care provider (GPs) and this collaboration will mean that the two services will be opened in June as the Solihull Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

The UTC will provide a much needed urgent care service – supporting with minor illnesses and injuries - for the residents of Solihull.

Excellent care

My appointment today has been great. I was seen quickly and the staff were lovely. Navigating the building has been difficult, lots of works going on and I think there are a lack of signs which could be more helpful.

Excellent care in Children's HDU

My child was admitted and treated in the high dependency unit. The staff were all fantastic from consultants and doctors to nursing staff. Treatment and care was excellent. Diagnosis and treatment were explained well to us and we were very reassured.

Waiting time to see a doctor are too long

April 2, 2023
Good service once seen by a doctor, however, waiting times at the A&E are far too long, averaging between 5-8 hours for children. Something must be done about it and if there was a similar service her in Solihull, we wouldn't have to travel all the way to Heartlands.

Poor support for mothers

March 31, 2023
It would be nice to have a non medical trained person at the maternity ward who can support caesarean section mothers. It can be very lonely and especially when birth partners are not allowed to stay overnight.

Thank you for your feedback regarding having extra support for caesarean section mothers, we are sorry to hear of the loneliness experienced at times. The service is under a great deal of pressure and staff do work hard to try and see patients as soon as they can. Left with catheter for much longer than advised

March 31, 2023
I was left with catheters for 17 hours when it was only supposed to be 6-8 hours. Very difficult situation for me to go through as a new mother.

Awful experience and rude staff

March 31, 2023
I received a letter for an ultrasound scan at Heartlands UHB. When I attended I was asked when I had last eaten and I told them that morning. A very stroppy and rude member of staff told me that I the letter had instructions not to eat and that I the ultrasound could not go ahead. I explained that there had been no instructions with the letter just details of the appointment time and date, and instructions on how to get to the hospital. This member of staff called me a liar and treated me appallingly. I was told that the appointment would be rescheduled but I had to chase this up and approach my GP to refer me again.

Seen quickly and admitted for observation

March 31, 2023
I attended the A&E department experiencing breathing difficulties. I was quickly seen and admitted to an observation ward. I was later discharged but was very happy with the speed of being seen, observed and treated. Staff were friendly and caring and treated me well.
