Speedy response to serious illness
May 13, 2024
The accident and emergency department at Heartlands Hospital were excellent. From arrival in the department my seriously ill parent was in an operating theatre within the hour. The staff were wonderful and took excellent care of them quickly identifying the problem and ultimately saving their life. They kept me well informed and I am so grateful for the service we received that day.
Seen quicker than expected
May 1, 2024
I attended A&E after 2 weeks of feeling unwell following a bang to the head. Upon arrival the signs said that there was an 8 hour wait but I was seen and sent home after only a few hours. When I was called I was sent to ward 9 and examined quickly. I was told to come back if I was still experiencing symptoms in 2 weeks.
Excellent care but difficult to get to
May 1, 2024
I was told there was a 2 week wait for a gynae appointment but was seen within a week. I received excellent care and the hospital was a lovely environment. My only issue is that it can be difficult to get to Heartlands Hospital on public transport.
Can be easy to get lost
April 29, 2024
I visited this hospital for a cardiology appointment. The staff were very good but there was quite a wait to be seen which wasn't great. It can also be quite easy to get lost as some of the departments are difficult to find.
Good care from diabetes team

I attend regular appointments with the diabetes team at this hospital. I have always received good care and the nurses are very nice.
Awful experience because of parking
April 18, 2024
The parking at Heartlands Hospital is a nightmare. It makes me dread having to go the hospital because it is so stressful and frustrating.
Lack of low hearing awareness
April 18, 2024
I have been very disappointed by the lack of low hearing awareness and training that I have encountered at Heartlands Hospital. There does not seem to a loop system and I have had extreme difficulty when attending appointments. None of the members of staff that I met had any training, even registering attendance for the appointment was very difficult. Communication from doctors was very unclear. This needs to be addressed as I cannot be the only person to have had this experience, and I hate to think of others struggling like I have.
Passed away in MAU because no beds on wards
April 16, 2024
My elderly grandparent passed away in the medical assessment unit because there were no beds available on any wards. They had cancer and a blood clot and were very unwell. I was not happy with the care they received and the fact that they spent their last living moments on a bay in MAU are just appalling. Being a NHS worker and knowing how things should be done I am very cross at the situation our family were put in.
3 days spent in A&E department
April 16, 2024
My elderly grandparent spent 3 days in the accident and emergency department at Heartlands Hospital because there were no beds available. The care was good but the environment and stress of waiting for a bed in a ward was awful.
Poor facilities for disabled patients
April 16, 2024
There are a lack of wheelchairs for patients to use at appointments. I had to hunt the hospital to find one in order that I could bring my husband in to his appointment. There were no staff to help or assist me and I was not the only person trying to find one. There needs to be more available at such a large hospital.
