Lack of staff on Ward 5

November 7, 2023
I have not been happy with the care given to my elderly father. He is 100 years old, he is deaf and blind, and the hospital are not meeting his care needs. Some nurses are nice but others do not seem to be taking his needs into consideration. His food and drink is just being left on a table in front of him. I am having to spend over 10 hours a day at the hospital to ensure that he is eating, as they do not encourage him to eat or communicate with him to make sure that he understands that there is food and drink for him. It is clear that the ward is understaffed and that is why my father is not being cared for properly.

12 month wait for diagnosis appointment

November 6, 2023
My experience of appointments, diagnosis, and treatment has been good apart from initial waiting times for the appointments. I waited over 12 months for my COPD referral to come through when I was diagnosed. I have been cared for when I had a suspected heart attack and I have attended for x-rays.

3 hour wait to be put on a waiting list

November 3, 2023
I attended A&E due to a mental health problem. I waited over 3 hours to be seen and was then just told that I would be put on a waiting list to be seen. I was disappointed with the outcome of my visit.

It's boring being stuck in hospital

October 30, 2023
Staying in hospital is really boring when your a kid. There's not really much to do when your 12. One of the nurses was really nice, he was funny and made me and my mum laugh a lot. They let one of my friends visit me which I was really happy about. The worst part was when they kept waking me up in the middle of the night to check on me and put me on the machines. It was annoying.

Awful experience

October 30, 2023
My relative was admitted on to a ward after a long wait to get into a&e and be assessed and admitted. The care was awful. Our family had to remind them to change dressings, and to check bloods. When putting a canula in blood went everywhere. The bed and my relative were covered in it. We had to chase them to change the bedding after waiting for hours. It was clear that the ward was understaffed and they could not cope with caring for so many patients.

Care in EDeck ward could be better

October 30, 2023
Delays in basic procedures, blood tests results, and medications made my experience unpleasant. There is room for improvement which would be helped by an increase in staff numbers.
