Good care but misdiagnosed

December 13, 2023
I was rushed into the resus where they did care for me well, but I was misdiagnosed with a stomach bug, when I had a serious life threatening condition and had developed sepsis.

Appalling service allowing self discharge

December 13, 2023
I am absolutely appalled that the hospital allowed my seriously ill parent to discharge themselves. They were clearly very unwell, and had undergone complex medical tests for heart problems and cancer, and I cannot believe that they allowed them to discharge themselves in the middle of the night with no assurance of any ongoing care.

14 hour wait with possible heart problem

December 13, 2023
I attended the A&E department with severely ulcerated legs after being told to by my GP. I was quickly triaged and then waited 4 hours to see a doctor. The doctor was concerned that I was showing symptoms of a serious heart problem. I was prescribed antibiotics, my wounds were dressed and I was told to keep my legs elevated. I was told that I was going to be taken to a ward for further investigation. I then spent 14 hours sitting on a hard chair waiting to be taken to a ward. This was after I was told that I had to keep my legs elevated. I was eventually taken to ward 28, where a number of tests were carried out. They were very thorough on the ward, but the wait was appalling.

Disabled parking is a nightmare!

December 12, 2023
Parking at the hospital is awful. There are never any available disabled bays , and many of the cars do not have blue badges on display. Attending the hospital is very difficult for me due to my physical disability.

A poor maternity experience

December 12, 2023
My experience of maternity care was poor. During labour I was just left in a room with my partner for hours with no checks being done. I have history of miscarriage, and pregnancy complications and they did little to ease my anxiety and concerns. After the baby was born safely I had to have a manual removal of the placenta. I have been left with back problems since the spinal block. During the procedure the baby was taken out of the theatre and given to my partner, but no member of staff told me and I panicked when I realised that she was not there. Simple communication would have prevented this.

Unhelpful & no consideration of difficulties

December 8, 2023
I had to attend A&E for emergency medication when I returned to the country from living abroad. I was seen and was told that medication would be dispensed at the hospital pharmacy. I can hardly walk, but was left to navigate my way there, which was a real struggle. The staff did not care, offered me no help or assistance. It was awful. I then had a 90 minute wait at the pharmacy for them to dispense my medication.

Awful gynaecology experience

December 8, 2023
My experience was awful, the consultant lacked kindness and empathy. The examination was extremely painful but I received little empathy, and was told it was because of the angle of my uterus. I was simply told there was nothing they could do and that I should speak to my GP about HRT.

Awful, I avoid at all costs!

December 8, 2023
My experiences at Heartlands Hospital have been awful, and I try to avoid going there. Waiting times for appointments are bad, and you do not get the level of care you should. This is not the fault of the staff, they are clearly understaffed and rushed off their feet.
