Overwhelmed staff in A&E

June 24, 2024
I recently visited A&E and it was incredibly busy. The staff were all clearly overwhelmed by how busy it was.

If there is a long wait list I go private but generally the doctors here will direct me quickly and correctly.

Awful discharge/bed management

June 24, 2024
The discharge process was slow with lack of advance notice given. They tried to send my elderly parent with a broken hip to the discharge lounge on a Sunday in the early afternoon, when she was not fit for discharge, paper work had not been completed and all assessments had not been done. The bed management team manager was called to speak with our family. She was incredibly rude and argumentative and tried to bully my parent into giving up their bed and waiting in the discharge lounge. Other patients who were much younger and much fitter were not discharged until hospital transport collected them from the ward. My parent was not discharged until early evening the following day so we are thankful that we stood our ground and refused to let them move her from the ward.

Attentive caring staff on a well run ward

June 24, 2024
My mom spent 5 days on ward 18. The care was fantastic. The staff were attentive and met all her needs. The ward was well staffed, she never waited long for assistance if she pressed her buzzer. They met all her hygiene needs and ensured that her toileting needs were met. They communicated well with the family. Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapists were always on hand to answer queries.

Awful care on ward 5

June 24, 2024
The care my husband received on ward 5 was awful. They did not meet his needs at all and I dread to think what would have happened if I was not there every day as he is immobile.

Lack of checks from maternity during stay

June 24, 2024
When receiving care on ward 16 for pneumonia I was told that while I could not be cared for in the maternity department they would come to check on my baby every day. They did not come to conduct these checks for 3-4 days and the staff on the ward were unable to perform these checks themselves. When they did come to check in the care was good but the wait was stressful.

A&E staff offered to transfer me to maternity

June 24, 2024
I was brought into A&E with pneumonia and was concerned about my baby. The staff here were good and offered to take me to the maternity ward but the maternity department wouldn't allow this.

Happy with care but staff are too busy

June 24, 2024
While I am happy with the service I received there was definitely room for improvement. The hospital is very busy overall and the staff are constantly rushed off their feet meaning that they do not have the capacity to provide an outstanding service.

Bad experience in maternity

June 24, 2024
My experience of maternity care at this hospital was very bad. The staff left me on my own all night due to COVID precautions. I then ended up having a C-section which was very stressful.
