Excellent Care On Ward 21

August 3, 2023
I was admitted onto ward 21 for 2 nights. I cannot fault anything from consultants to nursing staff they were all very good. I did not feel judged about my lifestyle but found staff helpful and supportive, who made suggestions and recommendations about my follow on care to improve my health. Necessary referrals were made by the staff on the ward. Upon discharge I was provided with a taxi home, which was paid for, because the discharge lounge was busy and the wait for hospital transport would be very long.

Good experience I was seen quite quickly

August 3, 2023
I was treated in the emergency day centre by a junior doctor who was very generous with her time. I was thoroughly examined and told that I would admitted once a bed became available. The nurses were all very good. I was well looked after and given a hot drink, a sandwich, and biscuits because the vending machines were not working. I was expecting a much longer wait but in total it took 6 hours from arrival to being admitted on a ward.

Long wait in Children's Accident & Emergency

August 1, 2023
My 6 year old suffered a bad cut to her head that needed medical treatment. I took her to the children's A&E department at Heartlands but we waited 7 hours for her to be treated. By the time we were seen we were told that too much time had passed or the cut to be glued so she had to have normal stitches which have led to more serious scarring. If she was treated sooner glue could have been used and the risk of scarring would have been minimised.

13 hour wait in A&E with dementia patient

July 27, 2023
Our experience was awful. I attended with my husband who has dementia and was unwell. After waiting for 13 hours he received no treatment and we were told to go home.

Good care but little rest

July 26, 2023
I was admitted for 10 days and treated for pneumonia. The care was good but during my stay I was moved around from ward to ward in the middle of the night. This happened more than once. The food at the hospital was not good at all.

Very Good Badger Service

July 25, 2023
I have had to use the Badger service at Heartlands on a number of occasions because of the difficulties accessing GP appointments at my own surgery. The service here is very good and you can attend for walk in appointments during specific times.
