Looked after my mum well

October 20, 2023
My mum was admitted here for treatment following a heart attack. I was happy with the care she received. She was well looked after, she was safe and comfortable, and she recovered well.

Good treatment but poor discharge process

October 19, 2023
I was treated at the hospital after a fall and subsequently had to have an operation. The staff were good but the discharge process and aftercare was poor. Communication was poor and there was a lot of confusion about where I was to be discharged to, with the hospital taking steps for me to be put in a home when I was to return home to the care of my wife.

Poor care from gynaecology department

October 16, 2023
I had an outpatients appointment in the gynaecology department and was very disappointed with the outcome of my appointment. I have PCOS, and my symptoms severely impact my daily life, I was told that I need to change my lifestyle, and there was no discussion around managing my symptoms any other way. No consideration was made to the impact my condition has on my mental wellbeing.

Complex referral system

October 12, 2023
I was referred to the knee clinic at Heartlands Hospital by my GP. I received a letter telling me that I had not booked an appointment. I called the number on the letter but was told there were no appointments and to call back and try again. To cut a long story short trying to book an appointment was very complex. I would have preferred it if an appointment had been made by the department and details sent to me via letter. Overall I have been happy with the level of care, systems could be improved to make things easier for patients and staff.

Over 8 Hours in SDEC with no support

October 12, 2023
I spent over 8 hours in the SDEC department, and did not know what was going on. The letter from my GP explained that I am Autistic, have ADHD and generalised anxiety disorder and I also told them myself. I was communicated with very poorly and had no help or support. I was bombarded with questions, and I did not understand them all. I became completely overwhelmed by the situation I was put in.

Poor care in A&E

October 12, 2023
I attended A&E in severe pain. The level of care was awful and I was just told that as you get older you get unexplained pain. I do not feel that I was examined thoroughly and they were unwilling to investigate my symptoms. Very disappointing that just because of my age they expect me to accept it and suffer.

Treated well by A&E and ward 19

October 11, 2023
I attended A&E but was quickly sent to the assessment ward, ward 19. The staff were golden. They were clearly rushed off their feet but they were so kind and took good care of me. After being fully assessed I was sent home.

Communication could be clearer

October 11, 2023
I recently received a letter to attend the hospital for an xray. The instructions in the letter were very unclear and I had to seek assistance from a family member to help me. They too also struggled with the unclear instructions.
