Given worrying news by sonographer

March 8, 2024
I had a heart scan at the Heartlands Hospital and the sonographer told me that my main artery looked swollen. I was told this unofficially and quite casually and it has caused me a great deal of anxiety and distress while I wait for my 'official' results from my GP. I am not happy that this was disclosed at the appointment without any further information or advice being given.

24 hours of back & forth between departments

March 8, 2024
My experience was very poor. I was brought in by ambulance to A&E. After a lengthy wait A&E referred me to the Badger department. Following another long wait I was given a letter and told to go to Ward 20 for assessment. Ward 20 was very busy but I did have a number of tests done. I was then sent to another ward because ward 20 was closing. I had none of my medication with me and it was a battle with the staff for my diabetes medication to be supplied to me. The whole experience was stressful and very frustrating.

Communication and language barriers

March 7, 2024
I was sent to the assessment unit at Heartlands hospital by my GP, due to concerns about my kidney function. The care was good but I experienced communication difficulties with the doctor. I have nothing but respect for the doctors and nurses working for the NHS but when you struggle to understand the doctor who is trying to explain what tests are going to happen and what your diagnosis and treatment plan is you need to be able to understand them and they need to be able to understand you. The doctors spoken English was very poor and I did not feel that they understood me either.

12 hour wait to be seen in A&E

March 7, 2024
I had a 12 hour wait to be seen in the A&E department. I was brought in by ambulance and spent a good few hours sitting in that before I even made it into to the department. I was as happy with the care as I could be given the amount of/lack of staff working. The department was absolutely filthy, years ago hospitals were spotlessly clean its a disgrace.

My autistic daughter had to attend the hospital. She was kept waiting in a room with no explanation at all. It was not a good experience.

Good care but inconclusive results

March 7, 2024
I attended Heartlands Hospital for skin cancer tests. The staff were wonderful and took great care of me during my appointment. Unfortunately the results were inconclusive and I had to be booked in for a biopsy at another hospital.

An awful experience due to long wait

March 6, 2024
I was the victim of a violent assault and was taken to Heartlands Hospital's A&E department. I had suffered a head injury but spent over 4 hours waiting to be seen. I was happy with the care once I was seen and a number of tests were carried out. The wait on a busy Saturday night after the trauma of my attack was horrible.

Outstanding end of life care

February 29, 2024
My brother recently received end of life care at Heartlands Hospital, and sadly passed away. He was very well cared for and the staff were wonderful. They communicated well with us and our family were well supported and cared for by the staff during a very difficult time.
