Day surgery went well

September 22, 2023
I had surgery to repair a hiatus hernia. It went well and I was discharged the same day. I was well cared for and given advice and contact numbers about what to do should I feel unwell or experience any problems.

We were referred for a paediatrician appointment for an ASD assessment over 8 months ago. We have been given no indication of when the appointment is likely to happen other than to be prepared to wait longer.

Staff numbers need to increase

September 12, 2023
I was an inpatient and underwent surgery. I spent over a week in the hospital during my recovery. Some nurses were good some not so good. There was a clear difference in the care received from staff nurses and bank nurses. The young staff nurse was dead on her feet trying to care for everyone the best she could while the bank staff did not seem to care at all. I felt bad for needing help and assistance from the staff. I was in a room on my own and a nurse walked past and I called for help. She popped her head around the door and was very abrupt with me, and told me that I had a bell to ring. She walked off so I pressed the bell but no one came to my assistance for over 30 minutes. I felt I was left to my own devices and it got very lonely despite having visitors. There is no day room like there used to be on wards, and there was no television to watch. The food at the hospital was rubbish.

Good but administrative errors occur

Outpatients
September 8, 2023
The hospital is bright and clean, and the staff are very kind and helpful. Administrative errors have occurred recently, when I attended for an appointment I was not booked in their system to attend and another appointment had to be made. This was most inconvenient and resulted in me losing more time at work.

I have had no problems with the quality of care and treatment. The only problem I have experienced is the ongoing building works which have made it harder to navigate my way around the hospital.

Eye screening appointment went very well

Ophthalmology
September 8, 2023
I attended an eye screening appointment, this was my first visit to this department at Solihull Hospital. The appointment was quick and they have a good system in place. I was seen on time, had eye drops administered, waited for 20 minutes and was then seen again. Compared with visits to eye clinics at other hospitals this experience was outstanding.
