Communication is a challenge

Gynaecology
December 13, 2023
My daughter has PCOS and is under the gynaecology department. When attending appointments they keep telling me that I need to take a back seat, but my daughter has ASD and learning disabilities, and needs me to advocate for her. She would not be able to understand what is being asked or her, nor would she be able to communicate her symptoms, difficulties, and/or needs. It would be nice to attend and not have to keep explaining things to them at the appointments. This information should be made clear in her medical records. Care is otherwise good.

Excellent with additional needs patient

Imaging

My daughter had an MRI here, she has additional needs and was very anxious resulting in a panic attack. The staff were fantastic, and dealt with my daughter with kindness and patience. They were wonderful. They made reasonable adjustments where possible including the removal of . The hospital have requested that she needs another MRI but after contacting the hospital they are going to consult with her consultant and we are hopeful that they will be able to do an ultrasound instead. They are so very understanding and trying their best to get the best treatment for my daughter.

Unclear information about A&E

December 8, 2023
I had not lived in the UK for a number of years. I looked online and it stated that the information made it look as though there was an accident and emergency department at the hospital. I attended for urgent medication but was told that they could not see me there and that I had to go to Heartlands A&E. More needs to be done to make sure that information is clear online, and in the community.

Blood test results were lost

December 8, 2023
The hospital recently lost my child's blood test results, and they now need repeating. My child has additional needs, and taking blood from him was an awful experience. They did arrange for a home visit for them to be taken, but my child had to be restrained which was a horrific for us all. The loss of the results now means that we have to go through this again. I am extremely frustrated and upset.

Very good paediatrician

December 8, 2023
The paediatrician at Solihull hospital has been great. My child had been referred and is awaiting assessment for ASD/ADHD. The paediatrician is supportive and doing their best to support us with the difficulties my child faces. That said there are limitations and at a point where we need a diagnosis. I have been advised by the hospital that there is currently an 88 week wait. This is so frustrating and disappointing.

No follow up care

December 8, 2023
I had a very long wait for plastic surgery, and it was cancelled twice due to doctors strikes. I finally had surgery in August 2023 but I have still not had my follow up appointment. The volunteers at Solihull hospital are very welcoming, and its helpful being directed and accompanied to the correct department. They do a wonderful job.

Solihull hospital is the best hospital. You are seen on time, nothing is too much trouble, and the staff are wonderful. They should run more ophthalmology surgeries here because it is a much better experience than at other hospitals.
