Good service but disabled parking difficulty

Cancer services
December 13, 2023
The care from staff at Solihull is great. I have had ongoing cancer care and cannot fault the treatment I have received. The volunteers who show you around are wonderful. The only concern I have is the disabled parking process. You have to show your badge to the staff at the main reception desk which means that you have to walk all through the hospital to show them. This is very difficult for me.

Excellent maternity care

I have been very happy with the maternity care at Solihull hospital. The consultant I saw was excellent and quickly referred me to the Princess of Wales unit at Heartlands, the appointment was made for me, which I was happy with.

Confusing transfer from child to adult care

Outpatients
December 13, 2023
My child who is now aged 16 has been waiting months for her routine appointment, which is long overdue. When I contacted them they said that she was being discharged from the children's department and would need to be re-referred. This has somewhat confused me as my daughter has been a patient for many many years with complex medical problems. I would have thought her care would just be transferred. It seems as though it is an easy option for them to take and alleviate their waiting list numbers by doing this, and I am not happy at all.

Excellent dermatology department

Dermatology
December 13, 2023
The department is great, it's clean and has a pleasant waiting room. The reception staff are helpful. The consultant is wonderful, nothing is too much trouble and I think they go above and beyond with the care they give. I have been under the clinic for years but a new consultant has helped me so much, I am finally seeing an improvement in my condition and I am more than happy with how things are being done.

Communication is a challenge

Gynaecology
December 13, 2023
My daughter has PCOS and is under the gynaecology department. When attending appointments they keep telling me that I need to take a back seat, but my daughter has ASD and learning disabilities, and needs me to advocate for her. She would not be able to understand what is being asked or her, nor would she be able to communicate her symptoms, difficulties, and/or needs. It would be nice to attend and not have to keep explaining things to them at the appointments. This information should be made clear in her medical records. Care is otherwise good.

Excellent with additional needs patient

Imaging
December 13, 2023
My daughter had an MRI here, she has additional needs and was very anxious resulting in a panic attack. The staff were fantastic, and dealt with my daughter with kindness and patience. They were wonderful. They made reasonable adjustments where possible including the removal of . The hospital have requested that she needs another MRI but after contacting the hospital they are going to consult with her consultant and we are hopeful that they will be able to do an ultrasound instead. They are so very understanding and trying their best to get the best treatment for my daughter.

Unclear information about A&E

December 8, 2023
I had not lived in the UK for a number of years. I looked online and it stated that the information made it look as though there was an accident and emergency department at the hospital. I attended for urgent medication but was told that they could not see me there and that I had to go to Heartlands A&E. More needs to be done to make sure that information is clear online, and in the community.
