A&E department referred me to MIU

September 12, 2023
I attended A&E with a suspected broken hand. They told me to go to the minor injuries unit instead. It was very busy in there but within an hour I had an xray. A follow up appointment was made at the fracture clinic for me.

Poor service and care

September 12, 2023
I have had to have iron infusions at Heartlands hospital. The first appointment went ok but the second was appalling. I was hooked up and left and no one checked on me. It has been inserted incorrectly, it was painful, and had pumped iron into my body. I was left in pain and with permanent scarring that is very unsightly. When they realised their error I was not seen to by a doctor in that department but was sent to A&E to sit and wait to be checked over, which I found awful.

The staff just do not seem to care

September 8, 2023
It's hard to find your way around the hospital. When you ask for help the staff just do not seem to care and you have to find your way around yourself. The staff seem to lack empathy towards their patients.

Navigating the hospital is difficult

September 1, 2023
I visit the cardiology department on a regular basis. The staff are find and the appointments normally go ok. The problems I experience occur when trying to navigate the building. The signage is not clear, and the different levels are confusing. I have asked staff for help in the past and even they seem confused by it. I am also visually impaired which makes things quite difficult. I find navigating around the hospital a nightmare, that causes me a great deal of anxiety and stress.

Poor care of frail patient

September 1, 2023
They are supposed to look after our loved ones when they are unwell. My wife has had two terrible falls while an inpatient in their care. We are now preparing to take her home for end of life care as there is nothing they can do here, and they cannot even keep her safe.

Poor Communication & Lack of Resources

August 31, 2023
My wife has been in and out of hospital 9 times this year with fluid on her lungs. She is admitted they give her water tablets, they discharge her and she ends up admitted again. There is a lack of communication from the hospital they seem to lack resources and are understaffed. We are stuck in a vicious cycle with no clear idea of exactly what the problem is and we have not been told about any long term treatment plans. Our experience has been awful I would go so far as to say that the care here is rubbish. My wife is terribly depressed and we are losing hope that they are going to do anything long term to help improve her quality of life.
