Amazing Neurology Team

I am seen every six months by the neurology team because I have a brain condition and need life long monitoring following an operation. All the staff are wonderful from the consultant to the nurses. I have been very happy with my treatment and the care I have received.

My experience at the A&E department was absolutely awful! I had a very nasty fall and was told to attend the A&E department at the QE and not the closest hospital to me because of how busy they were. I waited over 17 hours to be seen and treated. In that time I was not looked after, and I had nothing at all to eat and drink. I did ask a member of staff if it was possible for them to get me a drink and I was told that if they got me one then they would have to get everyone one. I am in my late 80s and was clearly in a bad way. When I was eventually seen I was diagnosed as having broken ribs and other fractured bones.

I attended the accident and emergency department and after a long wait I was seen by a doctor who I did not feel listened to me. I was told that they would look into my symptoms but nothing was done then, and nothing has been followed up from my attendance. I feel that I am not listened to because I have a mental health condition, and that my symptoms are not fully investigated because they are put down to mental health and anxiety problems.
Rheumatology department are excellent

I attend the rheumatology department on a regular basis and my experience has always been excellent. The facilities are bright and clean which is great too.

I have cancer and have been on a three month break from chemotherapy. I recently developed new symptoms so contacted my consultant at the QE. They called me back and discussed my symptoms with me and decided that it was best that I was seen as a matter of urgency. My appointment has been brought forward by over a month. I would normally go for scans and blood tests at Solihull hospital which is more local to me but the doctor explained that I could be seen quicker at the QE. Some appointments have been arranged for the same week but not the same day and I am hoping that these appointments can be rescheduled for the same day as I rely on family to bring me and even the journey in the car can be quite exhausting for me. Overall I am extremely happy with the quality of care I have received from the cancer services department at the QE.

I had a very good experience when attending the QE hospital. The staff were lovely and really put me at ease during my appointment.
Poor care and communication

During my sons treatment as an inpatient I believe the quality of care could have been better. They appeared to be short staffed, this having an affect on standards. Communication was poor and we were not well informed about what was happening regarding treatment and discharge. The food was awful. A renal care plan was put in place prior to discharge but no consideration was given to care at home once discharged.
