Report published! The experiences of Solihull residents who try to access urgent care

March 17, 2023

Our investigation into the urgent care services available for Solihull residents examined the experiences of 422 people. This report found evidence of numerous issues that service users and their families face when trying to access local urgent care services. This includes long distance to travel to get to urgent care services, poor communication, poor awareness of services, and using urgent care services because they cannot get a GP appointment.

Healthwatch Solihull is pleased to see that University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is planning to reopen the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) in June, which we hope will improve many of the issues identified in our report. Healthwatch Solihull has received large amounts of positive feedback about the reopening, and strongly encourages UHB to continue to involve patients in plans around the running of the MIU and other services at Solihull Hospital.
