Impossible to get an appointment

We just wanted some advice on what we could do for our daughter who was 6 weeks old at the time and was ill with a cold. She sounded very chesty whilst breathing which we were concerned about. We tried calling to get an appointment all morning and couldn't get through so tried 111 in the end and they said that she needed to see a GP that day due to her age. So we continued to try to get through by phone and then actually walked into the surgery itself at the same time as trying to get through by phone. Eventually got seen by reception face to face to be told there's no appointments left for that particular day and you are not allowed to book an appointment for the following day, which is ridiculous. Maybe they thought it would be a waste of an appointment if she had died overnight and had not attended the appointment they had given us. In the end she never got seen, but luckily she had her first lot of vaccines and a check up due the following week and so we were able to have her chest listened too during that appointment. Luckily the doctor confirmed that her lungs were OK at that time and that the catarrh was further up which was causing the chesty breathing noise. We didn't even bother contacting them when she caught Covid over Christmas as we already knew we wouldn't get any support. We were lucky that she was strong enough to fight off her illness by herself but other people may not be so fortunate.
